Democracy And Social Progress

The Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) is shocked and indeed very much disappointed and embarrassed by the revelations that Namibia’s national institution for higher learning, the University of Namibia (UNAM), is allegedly converted into an academic brothel by some of its lecturers and that some of our daughters have been turned into prostitutes for higher marks.

This sad state of affair once again confirms what the RDP has been repeatedly warning this nation about that, the ruling Swapo Party has lost vision and is therefore incompetent and thus has no political will or commitment to improve the wellbeing of the Namibian youth in general, the students in particular and that of the Namibian populace and large.

The practice of sex for higher marks does not only corrupt our children but also poses a higher risk of contracting deadly diseases such as syphilis, gonorrhea and HIV / Aids and encourage unwanted pregnancies.  These negative vices are against academic life-span of our children and must be stopped forthwith.

In countries with proper governance and effective presidents, one would have called on President Pohamba to not only dismiss, with immediate effect, the Chancellor and the Vice Chancellor of UNAM, but also to explore possibilities of charging them criminally for having allowed an institution of higher learning to be turned into an academic brothel for higher marks.

However, given our situation with an indecisive president whose status borders on a ceremonial president, one wonders whether such a call would ever make any difference.  Against this background therefore, RDP is requesting all Namibian peace-loving people to stand up in unity and reject Swapo Party’s inability to properly govern Namibia to the benefit of all citizens.  Enough is enough for Swapo Party’s incompetence to administer the wellbeing of the Namibian people.

What more are the Namibian people waiting for?  Unemployment is sky-rocketing (51.2 %), education system is sending thousands and thousands of young Namibians on the streets with no prospects of realizing their dreams, the health system has collapsed, corruption and theft of public money is rampant and is experienced almost on a daily basis and the culprits are not brought to book.  And now, UNAM has been turned into an academic brothel.

Fellow Namibians, the only solution is for us as people to stand together and give Swapo Party marching orders at the ballot box.  Governance that fails to take care of its citizens’ welfare is not worth sacrificing for.  Lecturers who allow themselves to corrupt our children with sex favors for higher marks must be dismissed, when found, and the children who are involved must be disciplined. Any person promoting a culture of laziness and corruption instead of a culture of hard work and ethics at UNAM must be given marching orders.

Finally, RDP wishes to reiterate its call that corruption in whatever form must not be tolerated and those who are promoting corruption must remember that they are destroying our nation.
